All NYC-area engaged couples, newlyweds, wedding professionals and media are invited toMarriage, Money & Merlot: Financial Planning for the Engaged Couple on Sunday December 9, 2012 from 2-5pm at 353 West Street, on the Hornblower Infinity Yacht. Highly respected financial professionals are coming together to discuss the business of love. Gabriella Risatti, founder and owner of Gabriella New York Bridal Salon, will be Master of Ceremonies. When money issues come up do you feel uncomfortable? How do you prepare and protect yourself from unexpected disaster? This is an event for anyone who has ever thought their partner spends too much on shoes and not enough on travel; who hasn’t known how to talk about whether to merge bank accounts; who has wondered what exactly is a prenuptial agreement; or has wished they knew more about financial planning. It is also for professionals who work with couples in any capacity, and want to be better equipped to provide advice.

After ‘I Do’ is an alliance of wedding professionals dedicated to helping couples think beyond their wedding day. The purpose of After ‘I Do’ is to provide educational resources and events, including the Wedding Academy series, for couples that want to plan not only a beautiful wedding, but also a solid and lasting marriage.

Y A psychotherapist will teach attendees how to talk about money and financial planning with their partner (Dr. Linda Olson of Smart Money Educators); Y A personal finance advisor will review the basics of financial planning for engaged couples and newlyweds (Galia Gichon of Down-to-Earth Finance); Y A practicing lawyer and law professor will explain myths & facts about prenuptial agreements (Attorney and law professor Vikki Ziegler); and Y A wedding planner will discuss how to build and stick to a realistic wedding budget (Fallon Carter).

Event Website and tickets: AfterIDo.net About the Founders of After ‘I Do’: Denise Oliveira has a master’s degree in journalism from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. She writes for www.gayweddings.com and for Huffington Post Weddings, and she is the co-founder of Prequels, where she writes the love stories of engaged couples. Denise has previously co-anchored a weekly radio program about politics and development, and she produced an award-winning documentary for public radio. She has served on the National Board of Directors of Wish Upon a Wedding, a non-profit organization that grants weddings to terminally ill individuals. Prior to becoming a writer, Denise was a lawyer. She went to law school at Georgetown and Harvard. Rev. Samora Smith is an ordained interfaith minister with a degree from The New Seminary of Interfaith Studies in NYC. Samora was raised in a multiracial, interfaith family, and from the time she was born she was taught to respect and embrace others’ beliefs and differences. She is also a musician, and studied Opera at Oberlin Conservatory of Music. She has sung in one of Long Island’s top wedding bands for the past 12 years and has played in venues all over the country, at over 1,000 weddings. She has also served as musical director of a program for autistic children called The Miracle Project, and she is the vocal coach and choir director of The Boys’ Club of New York/Josie Robertson School of Music. She is a WeddingWire rated Wedding Officiant, and she won the 2012 “Bride’s Choice Award.” Fallon Carter creates and designs weddings, and she provides industry knowledge on panels and at conferences worldwide. Fallon’s passion for the wedding industry began with an early experience at a papery where she was an invitation specialist. She began to put her creativity and newfound knowledge to use by assisting friends and colleagues with planning their weddings and other events. As luck would have it she soon found herself in Paris, where she helped finalize planning details for a friend’s three-day wedding extravaganza. This marked the beginning of Fallon Carter Weddings, a New York City wedding planning firm.
